On the Other Side of Anything
“My friend, Abby, just yesterday, published her new poetry book, On the Other Side of Anything, on Amazon. Congratulations, Abby! When I read Abby’s poems I might be inspired to think about an idea in a different way, recognize a scene so familiar that I relive it in my own mind, or laugh, nearly rolling on the floor over a familiar theme, or I might be moved to the point of tears over a tender moment. Sometimes her poems ignite another poem in me. Thank you Abby, for your talent and creativity that always uplifts.”

But know me by the heart of my poems. By how I treat others. By the color my cheeks turn when I read at the mic. By the state of my fingernails. Know me by the look in my eyes when I look at my children. By the understanding I show my husband. By my conviction and my temperament. My strengths as well as my flaws. Know me by the sensations that stick with you after you close this book.
Don’t Text Him
Maybe you'll send a long message
in the middle of the night
or too early in the morning for his
time zone. He might wake up,
raise an eyebrow,
swipe, and fall back asleep,
only to forget upon waking.
And maybe that's okay.
He's no longer eligible for
your kind of heart. Big.
Even when he wished you small
to lift himself. Even when he left
without a trace. You stood.
You stand. Bigger than despair.
Bigger than longing. You stand
taller than regret. Higher than
every doubt he instilled.
You are multitudes that
no ex can diminish.
So take both arms and wrap them
around she who is worthy,
she who knows her worth,
and say goodbye to
he who could not see.
